Sungrow battery and hybrid inverters simplifies solar and storage

Sungrow has recently released details of their modular battery system and range of new hybrid inverters.  Both are innovative designs that has the potential to increase the take up of solar and storage for more homes and businesses.

 

Sungrow Battery

Sungrow have developed an innovative energy storage solution (SBR096) for residential applications.  This battery system can be used to store excess solar generated for use at night, provide backup power for when the grid goes down or for full time off grid applications.

Modular stackable design allows for easy and safe installation by one person

 

 

The battery system is a stackable modular design which a single person can install.  It consists of stackable battery modules each 3.2kWh in capacity (100% usable energy).  Simply stack the modules on top of each-other and there is no wiring involved.  Inbuilt plugs in each module connect together as they are stacked. You can choose to stack from 3 modules (9.6kWh) up to 8 modules (a huge 25.6kWh) per battery unit depending on the customers storage requirements.

It doesn’t end there, you can also parallel up to 4 battery units providing an enormous 102.4kWh of usable storage capacity. The battery modules are lithium-ion phosphate the leading battery chemistry in performance and safety. The battery has built in BMS system and circuit breakers.  The battery is IP55 rated and there are no internal dip switches or setup required.  Simply stack the batteries and wire to the inverter.  Each battery module has handles making installation easy and safe.  Inverters which can be used with the Sungrow battery are the Sungrow Hybrid inverters models  SH5.0RT, SH6.0RT, SH8.0RT, SH10RT.  The battery can also be used with the new Sungrow hybrid single phase inverter range.

Sungrow have a range of 3 phase hybrid inverters from 5kW (SH5.0RT) to 10kW (SH10RT) for 3 phase residential and small commercial applications.  Plus a single phase 5kW hybrid inverter (SH5.0RS).   These hybrid inverters are compatible with the SBR096 Sungrow battery discussed above.

The inverters can be configured for grid connection with backup power or used in full off grid mode.

The most popular three phase models are the 5kW (SH5.0RT) and 10kW (SH10RT) with full backup rating of 5kW and 10kW respectively.

These inverters have a built in DC isolator which is lockable meeting the Australian and New Zealand standard requirements of AS/NZS5033.

There is no need to remove the cover to install the inverter as all the connections are plug type and located at the base of the unit.   The backup functionality is built into the inverters so no separate components are required.  Simply connect the inverter to the Sungrow Battery and commission using the Sungrow iSolarCloud App.

The inverters have the ability to operate in pure off grid mode plus a third-party inverter can be connected to the backup circuits.  The additional inverter is controlled by the Sungrow Hybrid inverter as it is grid forming via frequency shift.  In other words, the Sungrow hybrid inverters can supply 240V AC to appliances without the need for a battery or a separate 240V supply. 

The MPPT inputs have arc fault protection for series DC arc faults.

The Sungrow range of hybrid inverters combined with the Sungrow modular battery system provides a wide range of flexibility when it comes to sizing for the customer’s solar and storage needs.   The modular design of the battery allows for future upgrades and simplicity of connection allows for fast installations.

Sungrow have recently released the range of single-phase hybrid inverters that couple with the Sungrow modular battery.   The SH5.0RS is a 5kW single phase hybrid inverter and the SH6.0RS is a 6kW single phase hybrid inverter.
